Making Your Mac Last Longer

Apple Mac laptops have a lifetime of 5 or more years. However, you still need to take good care of it if you want to make it last that long, or even longer. Here are some simple steps that you can follow in order to make the best out of your Macs for a long time.

1.    Check your laptop bag
-    If you’re using a backpack or a briefcase to carry your Apple Mac laptops, you must remove small or big items like coins, uncovered CDs/DVDs, or ball-point pens that could potentially get stuck in one of the ports or inside the optical drive slot.

2.    Clean your Mac
-    You should clean your Mac once in a while. Apple Mac laptops that are clean can function well than when they’re covered with dust. Before you clean you Mac, shut it down first and remove the MagSafe power connector and battery. Wipe the laptop’s exterior with a damp, soft cloth. Don’t let the openings have moisture, especially the ports and the optical drive slot. Don’t spray aerosol, solvents or abrasives or any type of liquid to clean the computer.

3.    Store in a cool location

-    If you won’t be using your Apple Mac laptop for a while, store it in a cool location and do any of the following to preserve the battery.
1.    Have the battery discharged at 50% before storing your Apple Mac laptop
2.    For storing that will last longer than five months, have the battery discharged at 50% and remove it from the laptop. If you’ll be storing it for a longer period, recharge it to 50% every 6 months.

4.    Set it up properly

-    Before setting up your Apple Mac laptop, make sure that the surface you’ll set it on is flat and stable. Be sure that no sources of liquids are near, such as drinking bottles, swimming pool, and bowl of soup. During a rainy or snowy weather, make sure that your Mac is protected from rain, snow and fog. Also, be sure that no object can get stuck in the ventilation openings.

5.    Safety precautions

-    The power plug must be disconnected, battery removed, Ethernet cable unplugged  and any other devices be disconnected if you’ll do any of the following:
1.    Installing a new memory.
2.    Removing any parts.
3.    Power plug/cable is damaged.
4.    The case is spilled with any liquid.
5.    Laptop got exposed to rain and any moisture.
6.    Laptop needs repair.
7.    Cleaning the laptop.
6.    Ports and Connectors

Do not force a connector into a port. If they don’t join with reasonable ease, they’re probably not a match. Check that your connector matches the port and that you have positioned the connector correctly relative to the port.

Apple Mac laptops have a good build but you need to complement this by taking care of it. If you follow all these steps you can surely make your Apple Mac laptop last up to 5 years or even longer.
